Anniversary Year

15 Years of Museum of Bags and Purses

In 1996 Hendrikje Ivo opened the doors of her home in Amstelveen to allow the public to admire her spectacular collection of bags. Today, her daughter Sigrid Ivo is curator and director of the Museum of Bags and Purses, which has grown into the largest bag museum in the world. In 2007 it moved to its current location – a magnificent canal house on the Herengracht in Amsterdam - and attracts 60,000 visitors a year from home and abroad.

In honour of this anniversary year, the exhibition Impressive Presents with bags that were originally owned by individuals, collectors and designers.

Bag designer and friend of the museum Hester van Eeghen has designed a limited edition bag in honour of this anniversary year.

Would you also like to give us a present? Using Crowdfunding the museum hopes to be able to give itself a birthday present: a superbly adorned evening bag dating from 1929. You can donate online  or your donation in the special box or fill in a bank authorisation form.
