About the Museum of Bags and Purses

Museum of Bags and Purses

With a collection of over 4,000 bags and purses, the Museum of Bags and Purses provides a incredible, historical overview of the history of the Western ladies bag. Spread over three floors and starting with a bag dating back to the 16th century, the collection includes bridal bags, tie pockets, coin purses, reticules, school bags, evening bags, and designer bags from Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Hermès. Bags have fulfilled a range of functions over the centuries, and together they weave the story of trends in fashion, women’s emancipation, and the use of new techniques and materials.

As well as the historical permanent displays, the museum also has temporary themed exhibitions. Exhibitions featuring work by national and international conmtemporary designers are on the ground floor.

The Museum of Bags and Purses wants to surprise, and inspire all its visitors through its wonderful collection, the historical building and its unique atmosphere. The Museum of Bags and Purses is both a national and international centre for bag and bag design.
