The Museum of Bags and Purses
The world's largest bag collection
With a collection of more than 4000 bags, purses, trunks, pouches, cases and accessories dating from the late Middle Ages until today, the Museum of Bags and Purses in Amsterdam is the largest of its kind in the world. Our collection highlights the bag in all its variety of forms, functions and materials, while also emphasising the story that each piece has to tell in terms of style and fashion and the effects that it has had upon developments in society.
The museum also organises exhibitions of contemporary bag designers from the Netherlands and overseas.
The Museum of Bags and Purses is located in a stunning canal house built in 1664 in the centre of Amsterdam. Come and admire our elegant period rooms with painted ceilings and mantelpieces dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. After your visit you can relax in the museum café or in our beautiful courtyard garden.
The Museum of Bags and Purses is more than a wonderful museum with a remarkable collection; it is also a great venue for a celebration or a special day out. Be creative at one of our workshops, celebrate your birthday, organise an original children’s party, or come and enjoy lunch or an exquisite afternoon tea in our museum café. The Museum of Bags and Purses is also a licensed wedding venue.
