World's foremost bag collection

Enjoy 500 years of history of the Western ladies bag in a beautiful, historic canal house from 1664, located in the centre of Amsterdam. The museum began as the private collection of Hendrikje Ivo, who collected bags for 35 years.

Schoolbags

25 March through 15 September
You'll undoubtedly come across your own schoolbag, or perhaps one used by your parents or children. Although your own bag may remind you of teachers, of games played in the schoolyard and old schoolfriends, the schoolbag is more than a personal memory alone. The schoolbag represents changes that have taken place in Dutch education and society throughout the centuries.

The travel website TripAdvisor has awarded the Museum of Bags and Purses with the Certificate of Excellence. In the past year almost all visitors left a positive review, giving us a constant high rating of four out of five stars for hospitality, interest and experience.

    I visited this museum and it was an absolute delight! I adore handbags, and learning about the history really stirred in me a desire to begin collecting and appreciating purses more. It was a gem of a find in Amsterdam.

    Zondag 14 november met 9 vrouwen uw museum bezocht. Eerst al diep onder de indruk van het prachtige pand. Dan de collectie die heel overzichtelijk ten toon wordt gesteld. Verrassing dat het zo\'n grote collectie...
